In loving memory ~
Samuel Douglas Stevens, passed on December 1, 2023, in Nanaimo.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen, children Jennifer (Vito), Ceilidh (Ryan), Joseph (Clarisse), Isaac (Nicole) and his sister Barb. He is predeceased by his son, PJay.
Sam was a proud member of the Kitigan Zibi First Nation. He worked for CP Air in Toronto before making a life-changing decision to attend UBC's law school at the age of 35. Upon graduation, he became the first director of UBC's First Nations Law Program. Later, he relocated to Yellowknife and became the Administrator of the NWT's Justice of the Peace Program.
In 1994, the family moved to Parksville with the establishment of Stevens and Company Law Office. Sam continued to work until his first stroke in July 2022.
No one enjoyed a debate as much as Sam and he took great pleasure in asking a simple question of his children confidently knowing the path the argument would take. His health was his priority with early morning walks and time at the gym. His way of unwinding was watching all sports though he was a loud and forceful spectator.
A celebration of life was held at 2pm, Friday, December 15th at the Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church, 550 Pym Street.
