In Loving Memory ~
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our mother at the great age of 95. Joyce was predeceased by parents, Carrie & Harold Glydon, husband Donald Harvey, brothers John (Jack) & Wesley Glydon.
She is survived by brother Stan Glydon (Myrtle), and her children Diane, Bill, and Janet (David), as well as grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce was born into a farming community, near Windthorst, Saskatchewan. She received her teaching certification at Moose Jaw Normal School. She then taught in rural schools until her marriage to Don in Moose Jaw in 1947. There they started their family (Diane and Bill), and later moved to Calgary where the youngest, Janet was born.
She and Don raised the family in Calgary and were later transferred to Vancouver. Joyce taught elementary school in Calgary and Vancouver until their final move to Vancouver Island. They lived in Victoria, and upon retirement, built a house in Nanoose Bay, where they lived until Don passed from cancer in 1995.
She then moved to Parksville, where she was active member of Knox United Church. Mom’s passion was music, and she had the talent of playing by ear. She loved playing the piano and singing, and was a member of United Church choirs in Calgary, Vancouver, and Parksville.
Joyce will be laid to rest with her beloved Don in the cemetery at Knox United in Parksville. A private graveside service for family will be conducted by Rev. Foster Freed.
A heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors on the 5th floor of Nanaimo Regional General Hospital who provided mom with comfort and peace in her final days.
Thanks also to residents Linnea and Alma of Ocean Park Gardens, Parksville, where she lived for 20 years.
